What is Holistic Nutrition?
Holistic nutrition involves the assessment of individual nutritional imbalances and weaknesses from the perspective that the body is an interconnected system. All the parts are interdependent and thus important in determining a nutritional plan.
Holistic nutrition includes whole food recommendations, as well as an individualized supplementation program. This provides the body with the nutrients to maintain optimal health, as well as aid in recovery from illness.
Environmental pollution, metal toxicity, microorganism imbalances, and food sensitivities are among the factors considered in constructing an individualized nutritional program. In addition to supporting nutritional weaknesses, new dietary habits are introduced to aid in disease prevention and to speed recovery from existing illness.
What Are Whole Foods?
Whole foods contain the active enzymes and natural combinations of vitamins and minerals needed by the human body as building blocks for the immune system, tissue regeneration and metabolism. They are not processed, or genetically modified.
Whole foods are considered ‘alive’. This means that the naturally existing enzymes are not damaged, as they are when food is refined. They are also ‘natural’, which means they have not been genetically modified or processed. When food is processed or modified it lowers the food’s nutritional value. Whole foods should also be of good quality. Good quality food is grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and is preferably certified organic.
The quality of the food we eat directly affects the degree of well being we experience in our daily lives.
